Development Fund Policy

Revised – December 2nd, 2020

Approved by board members on December 2nd, 2020

As part of Ascent New Brunswick's strategic plan, we are committed to supporting route development in the province. This includes new routes and old routes that require hardware replacement. Ascent New Brunswick will provide financial support through two avenues:

  1. Solicitation of donations from our community to a development fund managed by Ascent New Brunswick.
  2. Direct financial support to developers who wish to recoup expenses in developing climbing routes or refurbishment of existing routes.

Ascent New Brunswick will secure donations in a bank account that will only be used for the purpose of development.

Any developers wishing to have expenses subsidized should send an email to ascentnb@gmail.com with a financial breakdown of expenses (excel file) along with a corresponding list of the climbing routes put up.

  • Development Fund money is only available to Ascent New Brunswick members in good standing.
  • The expectation for bolting hardware is 304 stainless steel. Glue in bolts must be used in any coastal application or in rock not appropriate for expansion bolts. Anchor configurations should be rappel hangers or quick clip/lower offs for sport routes. Approved hardware manufacturers include Fixe, Petzl, Mad Rock and Grand Wall Equipment.
  • Receipts/proof of purchase must be submitted prior to reimbursement at the end of the calendar year.
  • There will be a yearly cap on funding for new routes.
  • Developers are encouraged to apply for pre-approval by submitting a plan via email to ascentnb@gmail.com prior to commencing any work at the crag/wall.

Any new area that does not already have existing routes must be pre-approved to be funded.

  • Ascent New Brunswick reserves the right to deny funding to any developer who does not follow the above listed guidelines or does not follow a pre-approved plan submitted.
