Joint Executive Board Meeting – Oct 30, 2014

Ascent New Brunswick Meeting of Board of Directors and Executive October 30, 2014

In attendance were Greg, Joe, Marty (for transition purposes), Marc D’Astous (to give fundraising

report), Adam and Chris – via google hangouts video conference call. Meeting began at approximately

8:10 pm.

Absent: Mike Parker

Chris offered to chair the meeting. We began by having Marc give a report on fundraising efforts. He

has contacted the Alpine Club of Canada and found out that they will cover our insurance costs if we join

their group. He said it is possible for Ascent NB to join the ACC and still maintain autonomy over the

issues that concern us. He indicated that there are currently 63 active members of the ACC from New

Brunswick. They would also help us with access issues whenever they arise. Everyone thinks it would

be a good idea to join but we would like to know more before we commit to this. Nancy Hanson is the

contact person.

Other notes on fundraising are that we should ask gear companies for donations of equipment for our

rescue team and contact local and larger breweries for monetary donations.

Marc left the meeting. Chris asked Marty who the best person is for us to contact re access issues on

Base Gagetown land. Marty said we should deal with Roy Melanson.

Greg discussed his proposal for acquiring Cochrane Lane cliffs. Marty immediately stated that this is

something that will never happen and it is a waste of time to pursue it. Joe agreed. Adam, Greg and

Chris believe it is worth a try if we can pursue without jeopardizing our current relationship and access

agreement with the base. Greg said he will begin to work on the proposal.

Chris talked about the rescue team plan indicating several names of volunteers who have offered to be

on the team. Marty will help plan out how the team will function.

Discussion of the memorial for our fallen comrades, Don, Cory and Ian. We would like to have a plaque

of some sort installed at the large boulder near the look out at Cochrane Lane. Target for this is 2015.

Meeting adjourned at 9:45 pm.
